Insuring your Mobile Home Mobile (not motor) homes and their contents can be insured only for "named perils". Replacement cost insurance is available for contents, but usually not for the mobile home itself. The cost of removing the home out of the way of an endangering peril such as fire or wind, can be covered. To qualify for "package"-type coverage, mobile homes must usually be "tied-down" to keep them from shifting during strong winds. Any breaks in the foundation must be protected by a "skirt" to keep out animals and debris. Some so-called "mobile" homes - often factory-built, "double-wide" assemblies - properly installed on substantial foundations and hooked up to water and sewer systems, may qualify for conventional home insurance. |
